HELPFUL HINTS MAKING IT EASIER TO “SEARCH” FOR POSTCARDS & COVERS ON MJR’s WEBSITE

HELLO COLLECTORS,

(Before I start, MJR lists new items twice a week. Friday’s at  3:00 pm and Tuesday’s at 9:00 am MST.)

HELPFUL HINTS MAKING IT EASIER (Hopefully) TO “SEARCH” FOR POSTCARDS & COVERS ON MJR’s WEBSITE <> OR OTHER WEBSITES

Let me be clear here, the following is not a “PAID ADVERTISEMENT” on “optimizing your search opportunities”.

I’m just a “blind guy”, who has hunted a few items on the internet.

Here are some quick instructions if you are not familiar with navigating through our website. (Using a tablet – horizontal view.)

  • On MJR’s Home Page, you will see categories listed across the page: SEARCH - POSTAL HISTORY – POSTCARDS - ABOUT US - CONTACT US
  • Should you wish to find the most recent listings (let’s say POSTCARDS), DOUBLE CLICK on the main category - POSTCARDS and you will see the most recent postcards listed. Then peruse.
  • Similarly with regard to COVERS and CANCELLATIONS go to POSTAL HISTORY category and DOUBLE CLICK on the main category POSTAL HISTORY, you will see the most recent postal history items listed. Then peruse.

OPTIMIZE YOUR SEARCH

To OPTIMIZE your SEARCH in more specific areas enter a KEYWORD (1 or 2 words max) in the SEARCH BAR, click on the 🔍 (magnifying glass). Then peruse.

Now this is where computers and various websites totally “baffle” me. Computers are very obedient (just like your children 👶🏼 and grandchildren) in that they “search” exactly what you want them to.
BUT don’t make a “typo” or “error” or “combine words without spacing” or “fumble a little” as the internet will  search your mistakes.
You likely want results rather than a zero (0) report” or a “GOOGLE” approach, with the response “it appears as if your having trouble”.

So now you think, OK I have everything correct, with my next attempt to search I’m going to get all those juicy postcards and covers.

RIGHT???  DO YOU KNOW FOR SURE???

Let’s say for example you are searching for Alberta Postcards on eBay. Your search will bring up (as below)…

1. Enter “Alberta Postcards” into Search. What do you get? (7,371 listings)

2. Enter “AB. Postcards” into Search. What do you get? (3,942 listings)

3. Enter “ALTA. Postcards” into Search. What do go get? (628 listings)

NOW IF YOU THINK (NUMBER 1) CAPTURES ALL THE “ALBERTA POSTCARDS”, THINK AGAIN!  I DON’T THINK SO TIM (TIM ALLEN)?

Why? The search may result in new listings not identified in #1. Because “Sellers describe items in different ways and those “workers” inside your computer “search” exactly what you tell them. Obedient little “buggers” aren’t they?

NOW TO COMPLICATE MATTERS EVEN MORE?

Let’s say, you are looking for Alberta RPPC’s
Using the same format as above ( #1, #2, and #3):

1. Enter “ALBERTA RPPC” into Search. What do you get? (1,274 listings)

2. Enter “AB RPPC” into Search. What do you get? (526 listings)

3.  Enter “ALTA RPPC” into Search.  What do you get? (93 listings)

The focus of this little exercise is to show by entering individually as above you may discover a new item.  In other words, enter 6 (six) keywords separately into “search” thereby capturing all of the listings in those categories. Perhaps a new find.

Note! Listings fluctuate rapidly!

For clarification you may consider taking this newsletter to your “techie” experts. His/her first response will be this “MJR GUY” is a regular at the Cannabis/Marijuana Bar.

But more than likely the “techie” will confuse you even more than I did. 🤷🏻‍♂️

“Alberta” postcards are just one example, try it with your own examples.
U.S.A., States, C.P.R., N.W.T. or wherever there maybe an abbreviation.

GOOD LUCK !!

PS: I will begin listing the items from the new collection (I referenced last week) in the next couple of weeks.

I have not had a chance to go through this new collection except at a glance.

Thank you friends and collectors,

John Bucci
