ARROGANCE Of A DEALER RESULTED IN A WIDOW
LOSING $15,000 FOR HER COLLECTION
— OR DID IT?
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
READ ON IF YOU DARE!
About (7) years ago, as a dealer, I attended a notable Philatelic Show in one of Canada’s major cities.
It was a national sanctioned show so the “red carpet” treatment was here, there and everywhere. Sort of?
When I rang the door Joan and her neighbour (George) greeted me. I found out later in the day Joan was a widow who had lost her husband three (3) years earlier. George acted as security just to ensure my presence was honourable.
Well I started to inspect album after album — but not postcards or covers — onlyCanadian stamps!
Joan’s informed me her husband was a serious collector who specialized in Canadian varieties. Joan was not kidding. (I recognized various Dealer invoices from across Canada and USA.)
Joan continues to relate that she went to a local well known stamp and coin Dealer with a few items. (Now we must recognize Joan was a widow and had spent years of enjoyment, side by side with her partner meticulously collecting upper end Canadian stamp varieties.
So begins her story…
With a lifetime of fond memories and still mending from the wounds of grief, Joan courageously approached the well known stamp and coin dealer. Before Joan could even finish providing details of the collection to the dealer he interrupted her.
THE ARROGANT RESPONSE:
“Nope, not interested. I don’t even want to look at it.”
NOW LETS BE CLEAR HERE: This is one Dealer’s approach and NOT the voice of the many other agents who handle these transactions professionally. Frankly after an experience like that, I would have told the coin dealer to shove those gold coins up his ass. It’s True!
So what multiple thoughts are going through Joan’s mind? Joan didn’t know it at the time but this quick exit by the dealer just saved her $15,000 or — lost her $15,000!
THE SHOCKING TRUTH NEXT WEEK!
